September Special Events:
“LEARNING THE STORY” Emphasis Continues During September
Our church mission is “Sharing Christ by Learning the Story, Telling the Story, and Living the Story.” This year we are celebrating“Learning the Story.” Bring your Bible and join in worship as we explore God’s Word. Also, stop by the Fellowship Hall to reflect and experience the different stations that tell biblical stories that shape our faith. 9/11 WEEKEND OF SERVICE September 10-12 Morning, afternoon and evening projects are available for individuals, families, and small groups. Join VHUMC Team Leaders in supporting the new 9/11 National Day of Service by making in a difference in the Birmingham community. Specific opportunities listed here. VESTAVIA HILLS 60TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION Sunday, September 12, 3-5pm at Byrd Park This year the city of Vestavia Hills celebrates her 60th anniversary. VHUMC is proud to get to host one of the great events, the 60th Anniversary Celebration. This event is free and is open to the entire city. VHUMC will take our experience with “Falderall” (our annual fall festival) and share it with the city of Vestavia Hills as we welcome people from all around with the hospitality of Sharing Christ. Be sure to join in the fun! WHALE OF A SALE Friday, September 17, 9am-6pm (Lighthouse) This children’s consignment sale features Fall & Winter clothing (great opportunity for Halloween outfits), baby furniture, toys and accessories. Proceeds benefit our Vestavia Day School, Preschool and Elementary ministries. Most items will be half price from 4pm to 6pm. BRING A FRIEND SUNDAY Sunday morning, September 19 Did you know that the #1 reason people give for not going to church is that no one invited them? This Sunday morning will focus on the importance of Sharing the Story. Our goal?--that no one thinks this church is “private property!” Throughout the church, “Around the Coffee Pot” stations will be set up so that you and your guests can enjoy a no-pressure time of fellowship. We will also give away Bibles on this day -- take one for yourself or for someone you know. Be a blessing to someone by inviting them to VHUMC! CONFIRMATION BEGINS Sunday, September 19, 5:45-6:30pm 6th Graders begin their important Confirmation experience this Sunday night. Each week, dinner and games begin at 5:00pm on the Youth Floor with our Middle School Ministries; 6th Graders then head to Fellowship Hall to prepare to Confirm their Faith! PARENTS NIGHT OUT Friday, September 24, 6-9pm Parents Night Out (“PNO”) offers participating families one night each month, during which parents can bring their children (ages newborn to 5th Grade) to the church while they enjoy an evening together. Paid childcare workers and volunteer parents provide supervision over the nursery and organized children’s activities at the church. “This allows parents to enjoy an evening alone, knowing that their children are being cared for in a loving, safe, and fun-filled environment. It’s families helping families grow stronger,” explains PNO Coordinator and church member Jeannine Holland. JOINING SERVICE Sunday, September 26, 12:05-12:30pm (Sanctuary) Joining VHUMC is more than putting your name on a roll; it is uniting your heart with the church’s mission of Sharing Christ! You can join by meeting a pastor at the front of any worship service during the closing song. For people who prefer to join in a smaller setting, “Joining Services” are held in the Sanctuary on the fourth Sunday of each month. If you have questions about joining the church or would like to discuss what membership could mean to you, contact Carolyn Douglass at cdouglass@vhumc.org or 769-0134. ELEMENTARY MISSION POSSIBLE Sunday, September 26, 5-6pm (Room 219 on the Elementary Floor) Designed for 1st through 5th Graders, Mission Possible focuses on mission projects for our community, our city, and our world. Children learn about serving to others, and we share a covenant with each other to offer service to those in need. The children are directly responsible for planning and implementing the service projects. |
