This group serves as the church’s personnel committee. In accordance with the United Methodist Book of Discipline, the SPRC sets personnel policies, oversees the church’s personnel budget, and advises the Bishop about ministerial appointments. The Chairperson of the committee serves as a Church Steward.

Trustees
The Trustees oversee the church’s facilities and property, recommends capital improvements and administers church property as authorized by the Church Stewards and the Book of Discipline. The Trustees elect a chairperson and vice chairperson at their first meeting each year. The chairperson is also a Church Steward.

Committee on Finance
The Committee on Finance usually meets on the third Tuesday of each month, at 5:30 p.m. to review the church’s finances, and to monitor cash flow, audits, financial procedures, and requests for special offerings. It receives an annual recommendation from the Budget Committee, and it recommends a proposed budget to the Church Council. The Committee then makes a recommendation to the Church Council.

Committee on Lay Leadership
This Committee nominates persons for positions to be elected by the Charge Conference, such as the Church Council, the Church Stewards, the Lay Members of the Annual Conference, the Staff-Parish Relations Committee, the Trustees, and the Committee on Finance. Many ministry teams select their own leaders. We want to involve many persons in hands-on ministry and to help persons discover their gifts for ministry. The Committee on Lay Leadership seeks to be part of this gift-evoking process. The Senior Minister is the Chairperson of the Committee on Lay Leadership.

Church Stewards
This group includes the Church Council, a leader from each adult Sunday School class, leaders from various ministry groups, and fifteen at-large members who are elected in three classes. Church Stewards meet as needed when Charge Conference action is required.
Life Stewards: Life Stewards have served the congregation for many years and have been elected Stewards for life:
At-Large Stewards: In addition to those who serve by virtue of their position, fifteen persons are “at large” Stewards in three classes.

VHUMC Foundation
The Vestavia Hills United Methodist Foundation receives gifts and endowments to permanently provide for special ministries. Grants may be awarded from interest and dividends from investments, and sometimes from appreciated principle. Several funds have been established including the Mission Endowment Fund, with 25% directed toward outreach, 25% to building and facilities, and 50% to special and extraordinary ministries. The VHUMC Foundation elects its own officers and the President of the Foundation serves as a Church Steward.

Lay Members of the North Alabama Conference
Our church has five lay members of the North Alabama Conference. They also serve as Church Stewards.
The Committee on Lay Leadership recommends that slots one and two be selected from among those holding the following offices: Lay Leader, Chair of Church Council, Chair of Finance, Chair of Staff- Parish Relations Committee, Chair of Trustees. One member should be a college or high school student who has an interest in the mission of the North Alabama Conference. Slots four and five will be filled by Betty Likis and Scott Selman with alternate, Frances Moore.
