Health Kits for Haiti Earthquake SurvivorsTremendous devastation took place near the capital city of Port au Prince, Haiti the afternoon of January 12. An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.0, 10 miles away from the city populated by the millions, has all but destroyed Port au Prince and surrounding areas. The death toll could easily reach thousands of people, and repair costs will be in the billions. This devastation will be felt for years in what is already the poorest country in the hemisphere. Here's what you can do to help: Put together Health Kits ---- specific items designated by UMCOR (United Methodist Council on Relief). These kits will go to the Sager Brown warehouse facility to be shipped directly to the residents in Haiti. Please follow the instructions below completely – include all items listed and nothing more. All items must be new.
* In lieu of toothpaste please provide a check made out to VHUMC-Haiti for $1 per kit donated.
Be sure and write UMCOR 418325 in the memo line.
UMCOR will buy toothpaste in bulk. (toothpaste carries an expiration date)
Place these items inside a sealed one-gallon plastic bag. Drop completed kits in the blue bins located outside Tyson Hall, in the Sanctuary Narthex, in the Lighthouse, and in the breezeway. Important: Please do not include any religious, political or patriotic notes or emblems in any kit. If you would rather make a financial contribution through the church, provide a check made out to VHUMC and be sure to write UMCOR 418325 in the memo line. This is the code for relief in Haiti after the earthquake. Thank you for your donations. You are helping to make a difference in people's lives.
