Our purpose is to teach and nurture our young children's faith by providing opportunities that encourage our children to grow in their knowledge and love of God. EXPLORING FAITH, the approved United Methodist literature for preschool children, is used in the preschool children's division, ages 2 years to K5. The preschool ministry enables our children to experience and participate in the faith community, know and develop their Christian faith, and become disciples of Jesus Christ.

Sunday School
Just as we go to school to build an academic foundation for functioning in the working world, we come to church to develop a Christian foundation for continued spiritual growth. Sunday School classes are held for children of all ages from 9:40-10:40 a.m. every Sunday.

Children's Mission Projects
The children of VHUMC are invited to participate in service projects to benefit needy children, and to learn the gift of giving and being disciples of God's love. In the fall, BUILD A BEAR workshops are held to make Teddy Bears for the children of The Children's Hospital. In December, a SOCK TREE, collects socks for needy children of Birmingham.

Angel Choir
The Angel Choir, K5 aged children, meets on Wednesday evenings from 6:00-6:45. Contact Louise Elmore at 978-9981 for more information.

Little Lambs Bible Class
On Wednesday evenings during the school year, there is a Bible class opportunity for K3 & K4 children from 6:00-6:45. Teachers will teach Old and New& Old Testament favorites, including an extensive study of the life of our Savior and Lord Jesus.

Time for Children
Each Sunday during the 8:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Sanctuary Worship Services, we have a "Time for Children" included in the order of worship. This is a time of worshipping and sharing for our children and the other members of the church family; a time to help our children feel a belonging related to worship in the sanctuary; and a time to reinforce family time, related to both their own as well as their larger church family.

Worship Care
Worship Care is provided for children, ages K3 to K5, during the 11:00 a.m. worship hour. The children can participate in a Music/Movement class and can be picked up on the Preschool floor after the worship service. Parents of children ages K3 to K5 are asked to serve one Sunday per year from 10:45 a.m. to 12:00 noon. This provides an opportunity for parents and children to worship and share together.

Nursery Service / Child Care
Nursery Service seeks to provide quality child care for parents attending church activities. Nursery service is for children birth to K5. We offer a Sunday morning nursery from 8:15 to 12:00 and a Wednesday evening nursery from 5:30 to 8:30. In addition, nursery service is available for your meetings-contact Lynne Beckham, Assistant Director of Nursery Ministries, one week prior to the event.

Vacation Bible School
VBS is held each summer and involves a large group of children, youth and adults. These fun and spirit-filled days are designed for children from our congregation and the surrounding community who are 3 years through 5th grade. Activities and child care are provided for the younger children of our workers. VBS is the highlight of the summer for many children and an excellent way for teens and adults to share God's love and have fun with the children of our church.
