Children are important in the life of Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church. We believe each child is an individual and has been called by name. Our ministries seek to nurture children as they develop spiritually, emotionally and physically into all that God has created them to be. As the Education Team, we live out our mission of learning, telling, and living the story of Jesus Christ - our commitment is to guide persons of all ages to become disciples of Jesus Christ and find their own place for meaningful ministry.

Sunday School
Sundays, 9:40 - 10:40 AM
We have Sunday School for grades 1 through 5 that meet weekly, beginning in the Fellowship Hall behind Tyson Hall. We have a gathering time, music, worship and our lesson. We then divide into our classes and move to our classrooms down on the Elementary Floor. There are two classes for each grade and we have a team of teachers for each class. We would love to have you and your children join us during this time.

Children's Church
1st and 3rd grades
Sundays, 11:35 - Noon

Families participating in 11:00 a.m. Worship services, may send their children in grades 1, 2, and 3 to Children's Church in the Chapel, immediately following the "Children's Time". In Children's Church we sing and worship God through music, scripture and activities. Parents are asked to come and pick up their children in the Chapel after 11 o'clock worship. Children in 4th grade and older are encouraged to stay with their parents for the entire service.

Acolytes
Children who are in the fifth grade are invited to serve as acolytes in our worship services. It is the responsibility of the acolytes to bring the light of Christ into our worship service, receive the offering and assist in other ways during worship. Training is provided. For more information ...

Living as Stewards
6:30 - 7:30 PM
Children grades 1 - 5 meet in rooms 219 & 221 on the Elementary Floor. Each week we talk about living as stewards in our church and congregation through the giving of our prayers, presence, gifts and service. We play games, build relationships, work on missions and have a good time.

Children's Choirs
Wednesday nights - 5:45 - 6:30 PM
Come join us for music and activities. We begin Labor Day and go up until Spring Break. There are 3 choirs - Angel Choir (age 5), Melody Choir (grades 1 & 2), and Carol Choir (grades 3-5). All three choirs sing several times throughout the year during the various worship services. Come make a joyful noise with us! Call Louise Elmore for details, 978-9981.

Vacation Bible School
VBS is held each summer and involves a large group of children, youth and adults. These fun and spirit-filled days are designed for children from our congregation and the surrounding community who are 3 years through 5th grade. Activities and child care are provided for the younger children of our workers. VBS is the highlight of the summer for many children and an excellent way for teens and adults to share God's love and have fun with the children of our church.
