All
Christians are Called to Ministry
Vestavia
Hills United Methodist Church is committed to helping all
members find meaningful places of service. As expressed in
our United Methodist Book of Discipline, "The heart of
Christian ministry is Christ's ministry of outreaching love
. . . . All Christians are called to this ministry of servanthood
in the world." We believe every Christian has gifts for
ministry, and the church seeks to support all of us in the
discovery of those gifts, and to express them in places of
service that bring us fulfillment and joy.
The
Timothy Mission is the name we give to this "ministry
of all Christians." The name, Timothy, is drawn from
the New Testament where all Christians are called to keep
alive the gift of God that is within you; be rich in good
works, generous, and ready to share with others. (2 Timothy
1.6 / 1 Timothy 6.18) So, the goal of The Timothy Mission
is to help us affirm the gift of God's love within us, and
to express that gift in ways that bring us joy, in keeping
with our own interests and abilities.

Toward
a personal realization of this goal, we offer the following:
Spiritual
Gifts Workshop
A Spiritual Gifts Workshop (normally, three 2-hour sessions)
is an in-depth experience that helps us discover our passions,
gifts, and personal style, and what these reveal about possible
areas of ministry.
Discovery
Events
In a variety of settings of one hour or less, Discovery Events
help us understand The ministry of all Christians, with a
particular emphasis on a team approach to ministry within
the congregation, community, and world through Care Teams,
Outreach Teams, and Ministry Teams.
Disciple
Bible Study &
Christian Believer
These study groups give us a Biblical and theological foundation
that prepares us to be faithful disciples of Christ in the
world.
