| The
grace of God has dawned upon the
world with healing for all.
Titus 2:11
We have a hard
time dealing with anything that’s for everybody. If we don’t
have winners and losers –
well, we don’t have winners!
How can we run a world if we don’t have clear distinctions
between privileged and unprivileged, chosen and not chosen,
good and bad, blessed and not blessed?
We’ve just got to have winners to operate the system.
At least, that’s how it’s always been.
Anything that’s for everybody has to be radical, even reckless.
The dictionary
defines reckless as meaning neglectful, indifferent,
with lack of caution.
An antonym is listed, a word that is so opposed in meaning
to another word that it negates or nullifies
every single one of its implications.
The antonym of reckless is calculating!
Whatever this
is that declares salvation for all – healing for all –
is in no way calculating.
In fact, it is neglectful of normal standards of judgment,
indifferent to our usual marks of discrimination.
It throws caution to the wind, because it is FOR ALL.
It includes everybody!
Grace for daily
living!
There’s definitely something radical and reckless about it.
But, love is like that,
and love makes life worth living today and every day.
