Fleeting Instant

Life is a flicker, the briefest thing,
blown out before we’re able to turn around.
There is no time in its fleeting instant
for anything but love.
- Joseph Fort Newton

Whatever the number of years past,
or dreams of years yet to be,
fleeting instant names our earthly journey.

We fully understand this truth of time
only when we grasp the fact that there is
no time but this fleeting instant.
Right now, here, this moment!
No time to live but now.

Will we kill this time grabbing for more and more stuff?
Grumbling about the failure of others to make us happy?
Will we waste this moment waiting for a better time to live,
wallowing in blame, resentment, bitterness,
wrestling with guilt, fear, pride?

There really is no time for such self-destruction.
No time for anything but love!
Because only as we love do we truly live
in this one moment of time we have.

Grace to be alive here and now.
Yes!

THIS MOMENT IS FULL OF GRACE

The God of unconditional,
all-inclusive love
is present and working in,
through, and among us,
here and now.
So, this moment is full of grace!

This moment is full of grace
is a statement of faith
about an ever-present
reality of human life.

Being in this moment that is full of grace
is a matter of awareness, as we
look into the face of a child,
feel the touch of a caring friend,
hear the cry of a homeless stranger.

Being in this moment full of grace
is the response made when we
look with compassion into a child’s face,
hold the hand of a friend in distress,
listen with an open heart to a homeless stranger.

A faith,
an awareness,
a response –
possibilities for me this very day!

Spirit of Love,
I’m grateful for this day of life.
Strengthen me to do my part in
making it full of grace.
