The Bible
is a holy book, a divine/human drama,
a sacred story, told by people of faith.
The story is about God creating, blessing,
being present in the world, because of who God is.
The story is about God’s people, chosen, blessed,
with limited freedom over living and dying,
all within God’s purpose to make us truly human.
The story isn’t
always clear or consistent
about who God is or who we are to be.
What is clear is that a person, Jesus,
most fully reveals both.
The Word became a human being
and, full of grace and truth, lived among us. John 1:14
Jesus, then,
is God’s defining Word
revealing the heart of God,
life that is most human,
all matters of theology and ethics,
as well as the destiny of creation.
A Word full
of grace and truth –
grace that is truth, truth that is grace.
And the Word of grace and truth means
love without conditions or limits,
love all-inclusive and forever.
So, the story
draws us in, to hear, see, understand,
assuring us that God is with us,
creating, blessing, loving,
inviting us into grace and truth.
Inviting us
to see this day
with eyes opened by grace and truth.
Inviting us
to live this day
with hearts and hands moved by grace and truth.
