Bryan Sisson’s Journal Entry for Monday, June 23…

4:30 a.m. – Beep, beep, beep. “You’ve got to be kidding,” I thought to myself. Unfortunately, it was time to get up. After a quick shower and a bit of last-minute packing, I made my way down to the gathering area with my luggage to meet everyone else. After loading up around 5:40 a.m., we set out for the airport, waving goodbye to the Pinocho Hotel staff.

We made it to the airport with about 30 minutes to spare before our flight at 7:00 a.m. headed to La Paz. Everything was going smoothly…a bit too smoothly if you ask me. Cully was stopped at the counter – he had no ticket to La Paz! We think maybe in our haste in Miami that someone tore off two tickets at once – American airlines! After some quick maneuvering, Kay helped Cully get another ticket, and we were off to our gate. And wouldn’t you know it – Fran got stopped getting on the plane. Her luggage claim check’s destination was Cochabamba – not La Paz! No worries, it was all taken care of.

Beautiful flight into La Paz, with incredible mountain peaks. Dakin Cook (a missionary from North Georgia) met us at the airport, helped us get onto the bus, and introduced us to Miguel, our tour guide for the next 2 days. We took the bus straight to Tiwanaku, an hour and a half ride. It was a very interesting tour. We spent several hours exploring the ruins of the people of Tiwanaku and the Incan Empire. Though our group was tired (and hungry!), we had a great time sharing and learning together.

We arrived at the Hotel Elderado around 3:00, dropped off our things, and ventured out to find food. We made our way to a pizza place – nice to have something other than rice and yucca! Afterwards, Laura, Charles, Chuck, Ann, Fran, Cully, and I made our way further into town for some shopping. Boy, did we have a great time, and boy, can we spend money! We found a great place with several vendors selling craft goods. It was fun to be together and sharing in each other’s purchases.

We made our way back to the hotel around 7:00 p.m. We are all tired from the long day and are ready for some rest. Looking forward to our last full day in Bolivia!
