Arrival in Santa Cruz... We arrived in Santa Cruz about 8:00 a.m., and we proceeded to the baggage claim, anticipating that tha due the rushed transfer in Miami that our luggage would not be there. We were right - no luggage! We remembered our vow to BE FLEXIBLE. With Christine's Spanish skills, we began the tedious process of filling out paperwork for lost luggage. During our wait, several of us spotted Kay Twilley on the outside of the door past Customs. We waved enthusiastically, jumping up to catch a glimpse between passengers. It was such joy knowing we were finally here to start the mission of our team and catch up on news with our dear friend. The feeling we had was as if we were across a border from each other, wanting to pass over, but not having the authority to do so due to the Customs officers! Afternoon in Montero... We were introduced to Damian, the Director of the Methodist School we will be working on. And we met Pascual, the Director of Services at the Methodist District Office. We took a tour of the Methodist School, and met Mudesto, the pastor of 2 local churches. We toured the Hasta Crecer, and it looked great! Our last year's team began work on the building, and you can see from the pictures, it turned out beautifully! There are 100 children participating there now, and 2 room expansions are underway. We visited Kay's home, and see how she has truly made her home here. It will be great to be able to visualize her now when corresponding with her. Evening at Iglesia Evangelica Metodista Imanuel... Pastor Mudesto invited us to participate in the church's 4th anniversary, where we were graciously received by the congregation. Having the opportunity to participate in the service was upbeat, humbling, and an experience none of us will forget. The singing, the acceptance we were given, the children full of smiles. During the singing we were able to move about shaking hands, exchanging greetings, and truly connecting with the people. This was a day that the Lord has made, may we rejoice and be glad in it. I believe we did. Ann Bancroft |
