Kay
Twilley is a missionary of the General Board of Global Ministries
of The United Methodist Church assigned to the Iglesia Evangelica
Metodista in Bolivia where she serves in rural health care
education and alcohol and drug abuse prevention education
in area high schools and colleges. A registered pharmacist,
she anticipates joining the staff of the women's clinic in
Montero when the clinic is completed.
Ms.
Twilley first experienced God's call to mission as a Volunteer
in Mission. "My missionary experience started 10 years
ago when I was part of a VIM work team to Rio Colorado, Bolivia.
In subsequent years I worked in Puerto Rico, Panama and twice
in Cuba. In 1995 I very strongly felt the call to be a full-time
missionary. Through all the short-term mission trips, I feel
that God was gradually opening my eyes as to how He wanted
me to serve Him. He has guided me through the process and
given me very strong affirmation along the way. I know this
is where God wants me right now," she says.
She
worked as a volunteer English teacher at the Colegio Tecnico
Agropecuario in Rio Colorado, Bolivia in 1998, at the invitation
of the Bolivian United Methodist Church. Previously, she worked
for 33 years as a hospital pharmacist before her retirement
in 1996.
An
Alabama native, she earned a B.S. degree in pharmacy from
Howard College (Samford University) in Birmingham in 1963
and also studied pharmacy at Auburn University.
A
member of Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church in Birmingham,
Alabama since 1977, Ms. Twilley served on the church's Outreach
Cluster, administrative board and council on ministries; she
was also VIM coordinator, a member of the chancel choir, Sunday
school teacher and Stephen Minister. She was registrar for
the North Alabama Annual Conference in 1997 and has served
on the leadership teams for the Walk to Emmaus and Kairos
programs.
